Nature Reserves

Caye Caulker boasts two main reserves: the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve and the The Caye Caulker Forest Reserve.  Both reserves, located in the northern part of the island, are co-managed by the Forest and Marine Reserves Association of Caye Caulker (FAMRACC) and the government of Belize.

In 1985, the Caye Caulker branch of the BTIA (CCBTIA) received a grant from National Resources Management and Protection (NARMAP) Project to develop a Mini-Reserve toward the southern end of the village.  The reserve was developed to conserve a portion of undisturbed littoral forest.  A Resource Center was also built in keeping with the organization’s commitment to building awareness and education in conservation.
